The Board of Directors of Mid-Atlantic Lutherans in Mission is pleased to announce the creation of the Art Scherer Memorial Crisis Response Fund. Thanks to donations received in memory of Rev. Dr. Arthur Scherer (founding President of MALIM), along with other donations from individuals, congregations, and Board members, funds are available to congregations in the form of grants to be used to address needs arising from COVID-19.
As many of you know, Art Scherer was mission-focused. His guiding Scripture was Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God— not the result of works, so that no one may boast." Throughout his ministry and as Southeastern District President (1997-2003), he encouraged congregations and individuals to further God's mission, especially through wise stewardship of their resources. "Blessed by God to be a blessing to others" was Art's constant message. In these uncertain times, MALIM seeks to be a blessing to others through resourcing congregations with needs and challenges.
Grants are available for up to $5,000 and can be used for such things as outreach programs to serve community needs, technology for congregations and schools to deliver educational and worship content, and other immediate needs.
Information and a form to request a grant application are available on MALIM's website www.MALIM.org. Please complete the "Contact Us" form, indicating your interest in applying for a grant, and you will receive a grant application and instructions.
"Blessed by God to be a blessing to others"
We add our prayers to yours for all affected by the COVID-19 virus. MALIM seeks to keep God's mission moving forward by supporting the activities that are crucial to the mission of congregations in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
